“What happened to you? ” Blayze asked to my
surprise. It wasn’t his question that really
surprised me but the look in his eyes and
sound in his voice. It was as if he
really…really cared. No…that can’t be. I drew
my hand away from him.
“It’s none of your business! It’s not like you’ll
ever care even if I was to faint right away so
leave me alone. ” I told him tiredly before I
turned again to leave but instead he grabbed
my hand again to twirl round to face him. He
dragged me towards the sofa and had me sit
” Just stay quiet.” He told me wierdly before he
What was his problem? He was really acting
He came back in with a first aid box in his
” Let me see.” He told me after he took his
seat as well and poured some spirit into a
piece of cotton wool.
” I don’t need your pity Blayze. I can very well
take care of myself…”
” It’s not pity. It’s trying to clear my name. I
wouldn’t want people outside to see your
elbow like that and think her husband doesn’t
” Well isn’t it true? You don’t care…”
” Ahhh! Easy!” I exclaimed at him after he
turned my arm to rub the cotton on the wound
without my permission.
It was really beginning to pepper and hurt very
much that I had to blow on it with my other
hand and mouth. He pushed my hand away
and came closer as he surprisingly started to
blow at it with his mouth.
I stared at him with wide eyes as he blew.
Slowly, I stopped blowing as I stared at him.
Blayze…was helping me!? The more he blew,
the more it felt cold. It was as if the air from
him was magic. I couldn’t help staring at him
and wondering what was going on?
He raised his eyes to meet mine while he still
blew. At this moment, there was something
definitely different about him. Slowly he
stopped blowing and drew his eyes away from
mine. After he was done cleaning it up, he put
on a plaster neatly. I stared at it as I rubbed
on it. He packed everything up and stood up
” Thank you. ” I quickly told him, he stopped
for a second before he quickly left.
Whatever it may be that anyone could say to
me…from now on, I believe there is some
good in Blayze. I think he does care afterall.
My normal self was back again as I smiled
and stared at the brown plaster on my elbow.
* * * * *
I walked towards the dinning table after being
told that food was ready. I met Blayze already
seated and I took my seat beside him.
” Wow! Are two of us the only ones really
going to eat all this food?” I asked in surprise
as I saw so much food that was in display.
” It’s better you stop talking and eat.” Blayze
told me rudely as he was already eating. Okay,
I get it, he was back to himself.
“That’s bad manners Blayze. ” I told him and
he raised his eyes to glare at me. I really don’t
care about his glares anymore.
” You very well know that I’m going to eat on
the same table with you and yet you went
ahead and started before me…it’s not very
good manners.” I told him hoping that he
would accept his mistake but he just drank
down some water and stood up from his seat.
” Where are you going? ” I asked him as he
was about to turn.
” To a place where bad mannered people stay.
You can have the whole food to yourself. ” He
told me without turning to face me before he
left.I can’t believe he just did that because I
corrected him. Was it so hard for him to say
he was sorry? Sometimes Blayze just leaves
me confused about his real character. One time
he’s mean, the next he acts like he actually
cares and then he’s back to being mean again.
Now, he has left without eating properly. Was
he really going to sleep on empty stomach?
I stood in my study room going through some
files when I felt my stomach grumble. I tried
to control myself then decided to have a seat
before I then started working on some works in
There was a knock on the door and before I
could say anything, Caden popped her head in
as she slightly opened the door.
” Can I come in ?” She asked but I just ignored
“Can I come in?” I asked him as I popped my
head. He just took a look at me with his eyes
before looking away. Playing hard to get huh?
” Okay…fine, I’ll let myself in.” I told him
before I walked in with a tray in my hands.
” Blayze…Blayze. ” I called him as I stood in
front of his table. I expected him to look up to
me but he just ignored me making me decide
to take on option B.
I walked all the way the other side beside his
seat then I stretched my hand and shut the
laptop. He just stayed still without saying
anything to me. He wasn’t going to yell at me
or say something mean and wierdly…I didn’t
like that because that wouldn’t be the Blayze I
know. I’ve sort of gotten used to his character.
I gently placed the tray of food on his table in
front of him as I pushed the laptop backwards.
” Here, I brought you something to eat…I know
that you barely had anything when you left the
table earlier so I brought you…some food. ” I
told him with a happy smile.
” What is this? Are you trying to poison me
this early in order to have your freedom. ” He
asked me without raising up his head to look
” Poison…hmm…I really haven’t thought of that
method. I could have my freedom earlier than
expected.” I said pretentiously as I rubbed my
chin and acted like I was thinking. That
definitely made him raise his eyes to me.
” Seriously come on Blayze…do I look like
someone who would commit murder?”
” I don’t know…they say you can’t judge a
book by its cover…”
” See! That means you trust me…fine, I’m
sorry…I shouldn’t have really said anything to
you at the dinning table…”
” I’m not hungry. ” he said without even letting
me finish my sentence. Just as he was about
to stretch his hand to pick up his laptop, his
stomach grumbled loudly. He froze for a
moment on realisation that his secret was out.
He was indeed hungry and very at that. A smile
that had fade away from my face when he
rejected the food slowly came back in a
I slowly and gently bent my back so my face
could be on the same level with his.
” I hear you loud and clear Mr husband…you
see, I’m a good wife and that’s why I’ll leave
this tray right here…if you really don’t want to
eat then you can set it aside with your own
hands…I’m going to bed.” I told him before I
finally stood straight and walked out of the
I finally dropped my hand. I can’t believe my
stomach embarrassed me this way. I wasn’t
that hungry to eat anything that she would
bring. I wasn’t going to let her win one over
me…and she wasn’t really a good wife…I don’t
need a good wife, I just need a quiet obedient
one. Caden was far from being obedient.
I couldn’t help but stare at the tray but then
drew my eyes away. My stomach grumbled
and I had to take a look once more. I wonder
what’s inside. I looked around for any sign of
her but she wasn’t there so I slowly reached
out my hand and opened the covered plate and
to my surprise nothing was in there.
Caden suddenly came in laughing really hard.
“I…I knew it…you’re obviously so hungry
so…so I wanted to be sure and that’s
why…that’s why Mr husband, I played this
game…oh this is so fun…you…you really
needed to see your face when you…when you
uncovered the plate…” she said in between
laughter. I can’t believe she did this.
She actually pulled one over me…and an
annoying one at that.
” See? See Blayze…you cannot be the smart
one all the time. ” she told me as she stood in
front of me with a wide smile. I didn’t reply her
but just looked away.
” Don’t worry…I’m not so wicked as to play
with your hunger.” She told me before she
turned and walked out of the study room and
in a second, she came back with another tray
and placed it on the table after removing the
“This…this is the original one…” she told me
but I couldn’t help glaring at her. She just
made me look like a fool.
” Okay, fine…” she uncovered the plate and
indeed food was in it. The aroma of the food
hit my nostrils.
” See…I’m telling the truth this time around…I
did all that because I wanted to check if you
really are hungry and so I don’t embarass
” Leave and take everything you brought in here
with you. ” I told her and slowly her smile
varnished but then it came back again and this
time around, broader.
” Okay, I’ll leave and leave this food right here
with you. Goodnight for real. ” She said in a
wierd manner before she carried the other tray
I can’t believe she did this! I wanted to ignore
the food and work but the aroma of the food
suddenly smelt really nice and so good. It was
beginning to make my mouth water and my
stomach grumble. I really haven’t eaten all day.
I took another look at the door and no sign of
her so I picked up the spoon and gently
uncovered the food. I scooped some with the
spoon and into my mouth.
” Got you!” Caden’s voice suddenly rang close
to the door as she opened it wider. I
immediately dropped the spoon to pretend but
it was too late. She laughed hilariously.
” Oh Blayze…you’re really a funny person. ” she
said while laughing before she turned and left
closing the door behind her.
What’s gotten into her today? Why was she
playing so much and using me as her play
toy? Remembering her laughter sort of raised a
smile at the corner of my lips before I
